Are Artists Ruining Their Careers?

Updated: Oct 24, 2023

With this information, we will be as straightforward as possible, as many of today’s influencers have adopted the “safe” way of delivering particular messages to recording artists. The truth is if you want to be successful, there is no such thing as a safe way to do it. The only way to achieve greatness in music (unless another party pays for it) is to go hunting with the wolves. What do we mean by that? We mean, you must pick yourself up, go out and learn how to do it. It’s understandable that many artists just starting or lack the resources and teachings to do it correctly are at a disadvantage, but we can only comfort and defend them for so long in this age.

Once an artist realizes that they are at a disadvantage, every decision they make moving forward becomes a product of choice. In our years of working with artists, we’ve witnessed most artists choose not to educate themselves within the music business, therefore choosing to fail in the music business. By educating, we do not mean listening to celebrities, gurus, or other influencers online that provide 10-step tutorials or give you the “ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS” speech during their interviews. We’re talking about the education of oneself, yourself.

So how do artists educate themselves? It’s surprisingly easy; they must make mistakes and get rejected. This is the dominant reason many artists run from the work it takes to build their music careers from within; they don’t want to fail, they don’t want to feel rejection, most of all, they don’t want others to see it happen. If no one has, let us be the first to ask: What’s a little embarrassment in the beginning stages of your career if the outcome will be the success that you currently wish to have? Would you be embarrassed at all after such a triumph?

The bottom line is that artists have more control over their careers than they think, and if more time were dedicated to learning their craft and the business, they’d be better off in the long run. We haven’t mentioned anything regarding streaming companies, record labels, or distribution companies because they only come into artists’ paths when invited or when their invitation is accepted. We firmly stand by our slogan, “You Are The Industry.” The sooner that mindset is adopted, the better for the humanity of artists.
